Leather Moccasins for My Grand Daughter

I finished my grand daughter's moccasins!  This was a long overdue project.  Since my grand daughter is still quite young and doesn't necessarily fit in these yet, I didn't hurry too much!

I found the pattern for these on Etsy.  I purchased the pattern from a lovely Etsy seller from Slovenia.  I had to check on the world map to see where this country was.  It's surrounded by Italy, Croatia and Austria.  The seller is a pleasure to deal with.  Click here to see more of her tutorials; they're delivered directly into your email after you've paid.

Once I had the pattern, I shopped for some fun colored leather and I found this wonderful leather shop here.  This Etsy seller has an amazing array of beautifully colored and patterned leather pieces for your special project!

The last thing I needed was sinew.  Because of the leather being pink and apple green, I didn't want your regular color sinew; it didn't look too good together, so I opted for some synthetic sinew, which is in fact a heavy, waxed thread.  I chose the white because it was the only color that seemed to go with my project.  It wasn't quite thick enough so I doubled the thread and that worked out great!  This artificial sinew is very strong and is wonderful to work with.  The seller uses it for baskets.

Every part of my little moccasins was hand sewn, which I really enjoyed doing while watching a movie.  I finished the inside with a dark purple felt insole and an apple green ribbon with knotted tips as laces.  I then added my special touch - my signature with love!

There is something beautiful about hand making a gift for someone special!
