Honey Beach Glass Gems

Beach Glass is quite popular in Northern New Brunswick.  You can take a walk down most beaches along the coastal area and collect a pocket full of these beautiful, gem-like glass fragments.

You'll find such lovely colors such as a variety of greens, sea-foam and emerald being two of my favorites!  We're always excited to find cobalt blue, which make the most awesome jewelry pieces.  But if you really want to see us jump for joy, wait to see when we find an orange piece...  Orange beach glass is considered the King of beach glass and is worth just as much as a gemstone in the jewelry world.  In over a decade, I have only found one piece of orange and I made the pendant you see below.  This wire wrapped pendant was sold to a local client who appreciates beach glass and its fascinating history!
It's not secret that sea glass makes for beautiful jewelry designs!  I also really like it my mosaic work. You can see in the votive, candle holder below, how beautiful these little brown and honey colored sea glass gems are in a mosaic design.  Click here for more information on the votive holder.

Recycled Beach Glass Sun Catcher Wind Chime

This is one of my latest sun catchers / wind chime made with beautiful, genuine beach glass pieces that we picked from the shores of the Chaleur Bay, New Brunswick, Canada.

Each piece of sea glass has been worked as a piece of stained glass (Tiffany method).  I used pieces of recycled copper to add fun whimsical designs between the glass.  The gem-like, multi-colored strands dangle from a very unique, green glass triangle that I made from a recycled wine bottle.

This piece is very unique and is a one of a kind creation.  What a wonderful gift for anyone who loves sea glass and the beach.  See more of my creations here

Beach Glass Bottle Stopper Unique and Handmade

Combing beaches in search of sea glass, unique beach stones and sea shells is definitely a long standing tradition seen around the world and it is no different in our area.  Every day there seems to be someone walking up and down the seashore, head directed downward as a hound dog would his nose, ready to sniff out that rare, beautiful gem.  My husband and I were no exception to that rule; we took advantage of any opportunity we had to rush down to the beach and just couldn't wait for the competition to begin.  That's right, everything's a competition with my husband.  He was determined to find the rarest red, or better yet, the king of colors:  orange.  As we strutted up and down the beach, my husband way ahead as he was rushing to be the all time winner, we discovered beautiful pieces of colored gems waiting to be found, waiting to shine in all their glory in some unique piece of jewelry, or perhaps a something completely new.

Being the person that I am, I couldn't just make jewelry with my newly found treasures.  My mind kept searching for some new application, something different that hasn't been seen before, something completely different.  Seeing that I had learned the art of fusing glass, I tried to apply the technique to my beach glass, which I think worked out quite nice.  Because of the different glass pieces being incompatible to each other (something you learn when you work with glass - it's important to use glass that work together, that are compatible), it's pretty much trial and error.  Below you will see an example of one of the new applications I found for beach glass:  Beach Glass Wine Bottle Stopper, which make great hostess gifts.  These are unique gifts for him or gifts for her.  You may check out my Etsy Shop for more glass creations such as more sea glass creations, recycled wine bottle designs and more.

Sea Glass, Beach Glass and Mermaid Tears

When I started making jewelry over 7 years ago, that's when I really discovered sea glass for the first time.  Not that I had never noticed it before when I was walking bare foot in the sand, but I never thought of it as something precious.  To be honest, I would be frustrated because in my eyes these were pieces of garbage scattered on the beach; a display of negligence and selfishness .  With time and a little bit of research, I've come to appreciate sea glass as being beautiful, frosty gems, gently tumbled with the tides of time; little pieces of coloured history as it may.

Every time I find sea glass, especially a rarer colour such as blue, aqua, mauve, orange, red or black, I ponder and try to imagine its journey. The Bay of Chaleur is so rich with history that one cannot help but wonder if some of this glass wasn't from an old English Ship, a French frigate from France, an Oriental cargo ship, or perhaps it was from the local lobster fishermen who after finishing their favourite drink, hid the evidence at the bottom of the Bay.  As you can see, the possibilities are endless.  Why don't you let your imagination run free the next time you spot these multi-coloured gems in the sand and come up with your own story; a romantic one.

Here is one of my pieces of wire wrapped jewelry with a beautiful greenish-blue colour of sea glass in .925 sterling silver wire.  Click here for more info on pendant and chain.
